Destination: Vemdalen's Fishing Waters

Last updated

Here in Vemdalen, fishing is part of our culture, and we’re happy to share the great fishing experiences that await you in our mountains and forests. That’s why we’ve made fishing in Vemdalen convenient and easily accessible. Here are some of our fly-fishing tips.

1. Röjån, Klövsjö

A small stream, but no less full of fish. Perhaps better known as a stream for fly fishing, but with a shorter fly rod and precise casts, this is a fantastic spot for fly fishing. Use a dry fly on a short leader and target the smooth hot spots.

2. Norr-Veman, Vemdalen

This might also be more of a stream fishing spot, but it’s also nice to use a lighter fly rod in class 2–3. Plenty of trout, but not exactly easy to sneak up on. Very accessible, as there are paths along major roads in several places.

3. Storvåndtjärn, Vemhån

Sea fishing from a boat or a float tube. Plenty of trout and lots of insects.

4. Grönkälldammen, Vemdalen

A somewhat overlooked pond that, despite its size, can surprise you with some hefty trout. A perfect destination for an outing!

5. Varggranstjärn, Vemdalen

Varggranstjärn, high up on Vemdalsskalet, is a must-visit. It’s Sweden’s highest-altitude put-and-take lake, beautifully framed by the bare mountain landscape. Here, you have the chance to encounter incredibly strong and feisty rainbow trout—a real challenge for the fly fisherman.

6. Trångforsen, Skålan

A wild and beautiful rapid, downstream from Skålan, which only has water released in the summer. Even though it has been developed and the water release is limited, it’s an incredibly pleasant trout stream. It has a wild and rugged character, yet is easily accessible, with a road leading right up to it. Choose black streamers with gold accents and hold on tight to your rod!

7. Ljunghålet, Ljungan, Börtnan

A classic trout spot on the Ljungan River. It’s easier to get to these days since the road goes almost all the way there. A top recommendation for bright summer nights.

8. Råndan, Råndalen

Known for its large grayling. It’s a somewhat longer, challenging hike to get there, but the reward is all the greater once you arrive and start fishing.

9. Ljungan, Skålan-Börtnan

Although the Ljungan is perhaps best known as a premier grayling river, there is plenty of trout, and in many spots, large fish. Try the deeper pools at the headwaters where the Ljungan flows down from the lakes into the streams. Especially in the summer, the trout tend to gather in the spots where the water often foams.

10. Ljusnan, Hede-Hedeviken-Långå

Along the Ljusnan River, there are fantastic fly-fishing stretches that flow through a number of different fisheries conservation areas. In Långå, the river offers several excellent stretches for fly fishermen.
