Vemdalen village in winter – local flavors, entertainment, and shopping
Exploring Vemdalen village is an excellent activity on days when the north wind blows over the mountain peaks. Two obvious sights to visit that bear witness to Vemdalen's rich history are the well-preserved heritage farm and the 18th-century church, which are especially beautiful when covered in meters of snow. Take the opportunity to visit the village shops, buy bread at the local bakery, and grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants.
Vemdalen village is also a great starting point for your adventures in the forest and countryside. Take your snowmobile up into the mountains directly from the village center, go cross-country skiing on the illuminated trails at the ski stadium, or head to the nearest lake for some ice fishing.
A cozy evening experience is to visit the Vemdalen cinema, located in a 1950s theater. The cinema shows a varied selection of current films, ranging from the most popular animated children's films to exciting action movies and touching dramas.
Vemdalen village in summer – culture meets outdoor life
In summer, cows, sheep, and horses graze around the village, making a walk along the streets of Vemdalen a pleasant break from mountain activities. On Thursdays in July, there is a market at the local heritage center, where you can also buy freshly baked flatbread from the flatbread cottage.
From the village, it is easy to embark on a variety of adventures. Canoe on the Veman River, fish in mountain lakes and streams, go horseback riding in the mountains with experienced guides, hike, or cycle. Just 20 minutes away is the Hede-Vemdalen 18-hole golf course, beautifully situated by the Ljusnan River with Sonfjället in the background. Here you can play among mountains and waterways – one of Norrland's first playable courses each season.
