Klövsjö – a charming mountain village offering culinary delights
Klövsjö is a genuine mountain village with scenic views, year-round activities and a strong focus on local food crafts. Here you'll find everything from a school, grocery store and construction shop to local bakeries, beer breweries and cozy restaurants.
Winter in Klövsjö - challenging skiing and adventure in the mountains
The Klövsjö ski area offers varied skiing, and together withStorhogna, you will find one of Sweden's most popular areas for downhill skiing. This bustling ski area is located just five kilometers from the center of Klövsjö. Here you will find everything from gentle carving slopes and Valles Miniland to the three challenging black slopes that have earned Klövsjö the nickname "Skiers' Ski Resort."
Wintertime is also a busy season in the village of Klövsjö. Take a walk along the shore of Lake Klövsjön, stop for a coffee break at the stone oven bakery, buy locally produced delicacies, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Summer in Klövsjö - waterfalls, golf and beautiful mountain nature
In summer, Klövsjö village is known as a lively oasis in the mountain world. Hike to Fettjeåfallet waterfall and take a dip at the foot of the falls, or buy some food from the stone oven bakery for a picnic with views of the mountains and lake. Play mountain golf on Klövsjö Vemdalen's 18-hole course or rent a boat, kayak, or SUP to enjoy the tranquility of the lake. There are also plenty of fishing opportunities here—especially for those who like perch, pike, and whitefish.
Week 29 sees the village come alive during the popular Klövsjö Week, which attracts visitors with a coffee buffet, flea market, and traditional note drawing in Klövsjön.

Storhogna - mountain peace close to nature and activities
Storhogna is the mountain destination for those who want to stay in a more secluded location, yet still be close to restaurants, spas, and experiences. The area is only ten minutes from Vemdalsskalet and offers both winter and summer activities in a magnificent mountain environment.
Winter in Storhogna – downhill skiing, cross-country trails, and spa
In Storhogna, you live right next to the mountains. In winter, you can enjoy varied downhill skiing, cross-country trails in the mountains, and a cozy spa.
The Storhogna and Klövsjö ski areas are connected by a transport lift. This makes it easy to choose between scenic skiing on 100% natural snow in Storhogna and technically challenging slopes in Klövsjö. Storhogna's slopes are perfect for families with children who want a slightly quieter skiing holiday.
If you prefer cross-country skiing, there are several beautiful trails that take you straight up the mountain. You can either start at the mountain hotel and ski up to the vast Slättfjället, or you can strap on your skis at the trail center located in the middle of Storhogna.
After an active day in the snow, you can relax with a spa treatment, massage, or bath at the mountain hotel. The Storhogna M activity center offers bowling, billiards, and a restaurant. There is also an unstaffed grocery store here—Storhogna Livs.
Summer in Storhogna – hiking, waterfalls, and nature experiences
Storhogna is a fantastic place to explore even in summer. There are well-marked hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty. Take an easier walk along the Hotellslingan trail, or set out on a longer hike to Fallmoranfallen – a magical place where you can experience rolling mountain views, enjoy a cozy coffee break, or cool off with a dip in the fresh mountain water of Röjån. Experiencing the hiking trails with running shoes on your feet is also a special experience.
Even in summer, you can relax with a visit to the spa or a three-course dinner at Storhogna Högfjällshotell & Spa.

Vemdalsskalet – at the heart of the mountain experience
Vemdalsskalet offers year-round adventures. Here you stay right in the heart of the action – close to skiing, hiking, shopping, and restaurants. The area is located ten minutes north of Vemdalen village and offers a wide range of accommodation, activities, and services.
Winter at Vemdalsskalet – central and lively with an alpine feel
Vemdalsskalet is a complete destination with something for everyone, and proximity to other areas in the Vemdalen destination. The ski system spans two mountains and offers everything from child-friendly slopes to challenging descents. There are 21 slopes, 12 lifts, a popular fun ride, and a mini park. For cross-country skiers, there are illuminated trails, longer tours, and connections to both Björnrike Storhogna.
A must is to take the bus or ski up to Jaktstugan for waffles and mountain views, or visit Varggransstugan – a cozy mountain gem offering coffee and lunch. In the evening, Vemdalsskalets Högfjällshotell offers entertainment such as nightclubs and dancing, and the restaurants in the area are both varied and high-class.
Summer at Vemdalsskalet – mountain idyll with hiking and cycling
In summer, Vemdalsskalet transforms into a mountain idyll with activities for the whole family. Several hiking trails of varying degrees of difficulty start here, and the area offers excellent cycling opportunities – with flow trails, pump tracks, and bike rental on site.
Skalets Square is bustling with life even during the summer, with activities such as a pedal car track, soft tennis, and scooters. Several shops and restaurants are open from June to September. Don't miss a visit to the tourist information center, where you can get tips on excursions, buy maps, and plan your mountain adventure.
For those who enjoy fishing, there are child-friendly waters nearby, as well as more difficult-to-access lakes and streams for fishing enthusiasts. There are also two 18-hole golf courses nearby: Hede Vemdalen Golf Club, where you can play with a view of Sonfjället, and Klövsjö-Vemdalens Golf Course, a spectacular 18-hole course in a historic mountain pasture setting.

Vemdalen village – culture, history, and year-round services
In the heart of Vemdalen, you will find the village of Vemdalen. The village has a preschool, school, grocery stores, gas station, restaurants, and shopping, as well as proximity to the magnificent mountain nature. Due to its proximity to schools and shops, this is also where many of the area's permanent residents live.
Vemdalen village in winter – local flavors, entertainment, and shopping
Exploring Vemdalen village is an excellent activity on days when the north wind blows over the mountain peaks. Two obvious sights to visit that bear witness to Vemdalen's rich history are the well-preserved heritage farm and the 18th-century church, which are especially beautiful when covered in meters of snow. Take the opportunity to visit the village shops, buy bread at the local bakery, and grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants.
Vemdalen village is also a great starting point for your adventures in the forest and countryside. Take your snowmobile up into the mountains directly from the village center, go cross-country skiing on the illuminated trails at the ski stadium, or head to the nearest lake for some ice fishing.
A cozy evening experience is to visit the Vemdalen cinema, located in a 1950s theater. The cinema shows a varied selection of current films, ranging from the most popular animated children's films to exciting action movies and touching dramas.
Vemdalen village in summer – culture meets outdoor life
In summer, cows, sheep, and horses graze around the village, making a walk along the streets of Vemdalen a pleasant break from mountain activities. On Thursdays in July, there is a market at the local heritage center, where you can also buy freshly baked flatbread from the flatbread cottage.
From the village, it is easy to embark on a variety of adventures. Canoe on the Veman River, fish in mountain lakes and streams, go horseback riding in the mountains with experienced guides, hike, or cycle. Just 20 minutes away is the Hede-Vemdalen 18-hole golf course, beautifully situated by the Ljusnan River with Sonfjället in the background. Here you can play among mountains and waterways – one of Norrland's first playable courses each season.

Björnrike mountain holidays all year round
Björnrike one of Vemdalen's most popular areas, just ten minutes from Vemdalen village. Here you will find magical views, snow-sure slopes, and peaceful mountain environments—perfect for both active winter weeks and relaxing summer days.
Björnrike winter – sunny, snow-sure, and family-friendly
In winter, Björnrike is Björnrike activity. The area offersski-in/ski-out accommodationsand south-facing slopes with views of Sonfjället. There are slopes for everyone here – from beginners to experienced skiers. Each lift leads to at least two alternative slopes. Kodiak, the longest run in the area, offers over two kilometers of slopes.
For families with children, Björnvallen is an obvious choice with button lifts, conveyor belts, and Valles mini park. Barbecue areas and a warming hut make a day on the slopes even more enjoyable.
At the newly renovated Björnrike Club (formerly Björnrike), you will find a grocery store, sports shop, gym, spa, restaurant, and café, among other things.

Björnrike summer – silence, hiking, and magnificent nature
In summer, Björnrike is Björnrike peaceful and natural alternative for those who want to get away from everyday life. Hike along the mountain slopes or make your way all the way to Vemdalsskalet via the hiking trail past Björnrikestugan and on towards Varggransstugan.
During the summer, restaurants and shops in Björnrike are Björnrike , but the mountains are right outside the door. Ten minutes away, in the village of Vemdalen, you will find shopping, food, and services.

Vemhån – close to the mountains and affordable
Halfway between Vemdalen village and Sveg, along county road 314, lies Vemhån – a small but lively village in the heart of Härjedalen.
Vemhån in winter – affordable accommodation close to skiing
With its proximity to the Vemdalen ski areas and direct access to extensive snowmobile trails, Vemhån is a hidden gem in winter. Here you can stay at an affordable price during your mountain vacation, while still having access to everything you want to do when visiting Vemdalen.
The nearest ski area is Björnrike, located 15 minutes by car from Vemhån. Björnrike a wide range of restaurants, a grocery store open in winter, and shopping. Vemhån also has a small grocery store with a small café.
If you want to go cross-country skiing, Vemhån has a lighted trail that continues out onto the lake ice. On a clear evening with a full moon, skiing across the ice is a magical experience. If you are more interested in fishing, ice fishing is a popular activity on the lakes surrounding Vemhån. Another popular winter activity in Vemhån is ice skating at the village's ice hockey rink.
Vemhån in summer – rural life close to the mountains
In summer, Vemhån offers a rural idyll with its many pastures where cows and horses graze. By the lake there is a lovely bathing spot to visit when the weather is fine. Or why not try your luck at fishing in one of the ponds around the village? In the middle of Vemhån there is also a well-equipped outdoor gym for those who want to exercise during their vacation.
When you feel the urge to go hiking, you can either explore the forests around Vemhån or take a 15-minute drive to Björnrike. Another 15 minutes by car will take you to Vemdalsskalet, where there is a wide range of activities, shops, and restaurants in the summer.

Hedeviken – with Sonfjället as its neighbor
Hedeviken is located where the Ljusnan River spreads out into Vikartjärnen. Here you will find a highly rated campsite and a cozy craft café. In the summer, one of the access roads to Sonfjället National Park runs through the village.
Hedeviken in winter – a popular spot for ice fishermen
Around Hedeviken there is a well-maintained network of snowmobile trails, which connects with the Vemdalen and Hede snowmobile trails. Many of the trails pass excellent fishing lakes where you can enjoy superb ice fishing on fine spring days.
You can stay at the popular campsite, where you can rent snowmobiles, book snowmobile safaris, and book guided ice fishing trips. The nearest grocery stores are in Vemdalen village or in Hede, both about a ten-minute drive from Hedeviken. If you fancy some downhill skiing, Vemdalsskalet and Björnrike are Björnrike nearest ski areas. Cross-country skiing is available in both Hede and Vemdalen village.
Hedeviken in summer – the gateway to Sonfjället
In summer, you can drive through Hedeviken to get to Nyvallen, which is one of the entrances to Sonfjället National Park. Nyvallen is also a mountain pasture that is still in use. Mountain cows graze freely at the mountain pasture, and there is also a summer café.
In summer, the campsite in Hedeviken is in full swing. Here you can book a guided tour where you can spot wild animals such as moose and bears, or go on a guided tour of Sonfjället. There is also a nice swimming spot next to the campsite. For those who enjoy trail running, there are pleasant trails around Hedeviken to explore.
Don't miss a visit to Hedlanda Airport, which is not far from Hedeviken. Although the airport only handles private aircraft, it offers services such as parking for motorhomes and caravans, electric car charging, and catering.

Hede – a lively village in summer and winter
Twenty minutes from Vemdalen village, you will find Hede – a lively village with many permanent residents. Here you will find the nearest pharmacy, health center, and veterinarian.
Hede in winter – the entrance to Sonfjället
In winter, you can admire the magnificent Sonfjället mountain in all its snow-covered splendor from Hede. It is also through Hede that you drive to reach the winter road that takes you to the national park. You park at Nysätern, where you can put on your touring skis right by the parking lot and start skiing up through the forest surrounding the foot of Sonfjället.
If you would rather discover family-friendly cross-country skiing, there are four kilometers of ski trails on the golf course in Hede. After a day outdoors, you can take the opportunity to check out the cozy interior design store in the center of Hede. There is also a pharmacy, shoe store, and grocery store here. On the north side of Ljusnan, there is also a furniture store.
Many people who suffer minor accidents on the ski slopes may need to visit Fjällhälsan in Hede. This is an emergency care center with X-ray facilities and the ability to set minor bone fractures. However, if it is your pet that has come to harm during your mountain vacation, the veterinary clinic in Hede accepts emergency patients around the clock.
Hede in summer – golf and hiking
In summer, Hede attracts many visitors with its scenic golf course. Located right next to the Ljusnan River, with Sonfjället as a backdrop, it is easy to understand why it is considered one of Sweden's most beautiful golf courses.
Even in summer, you can start from Nysätern, which you reach by driving through Hede, to explore Sonfjället National Park. From Nysätern, the climb up to the bare mountain is gentler than if you start from the main entrance at Nyvallen.

Rätansbygden - peaceful and close to the mountains
The Rätansbygden region stretches out around the long, narrow, and straight Lake Rätans. There is much to see and discover here, both in summer and winter.
Rätansbygden in winter – a hub for snowmobile enthusiasts
Four major snowmobile trails converge at the gas station in Rätan, making the village a well-known hub for snowmobilers. A popular adventure for snowmobile enthusiasts is to ride from Sundsvall to Vemdalen, a trip that passes through Rätan. From Rätan, snowmobile trails also lead to Östersund and Sveg.
The area also has pleasant campsites and cottage rentals. Why not stay in a camping cottage right next to Lake Rätanssjön, with a cozy restaurant right next door?
The nearest ski area is in Storhogna, where there are both extensive cross-country trails and ski slopes. If you continue past the exit to Storhogna, you will come to the slopes and restaurants of Vemdalsskalet.
Rätansbygden in summer – a paradise for anglers
In summer, you can choose between hiking, cycling, and fishing in the Rätansbygden area. In addition to Lake Rätanssjön itself offering excellent fishing, there are also many other lakes, waterways, and rivers to try your luck at fishing. Several locations have windbreaks, barbecue areas, and wheelchair ramps to make fishing enjoyable and accessible for everyone.
If you want to get your heart rate up, there are also pleasant cycling trails in the area that are suitable for all levels. Or why not explore the Rätan region on foot? In the fall, there are plenty of berries and mushrooms to pick in the forests around the Rätan region.
If you long for mountain hiking, it is not far from Rätan to the destination of the Vemdalen mountain areas. Enjoy the vast bare mountains in Storhogna or why not take in the miles-wide views from the peaks around Vemdalsskalet.

Åsarna a mountain gem for the active
Located just 15 minutes from the Klövsjö ski area, the village Åsarna is Åsarna cozy retreat for those who want an active vacation in beautiful natural surroundings. In both summer and winter, there is a wide range of trails and paths, as well as proximity to several exciting attractions.
Åsarna winter – endless cross-country skiing
The village Åsarna perhaps best known for its talented cross-country skiers, and is sometimes called Guldbyn (Gold Village) because of all the Olympic and World Championship medals that skiers from the village have won. For those who love tough days on the ski trails, this is paradise. For those who are passionate about snowmobiling, there is a well-developed trail system that stretches all the way up to the mountain peaks.
With both Klövsjö and Svenstavik just a short drive away in either direction, there is also a wide range of services in the surrounding area. In Klövsjö, you will find a ski area for downhill skiing, a stone oven bakery, and a spa, while Svenstavik has a liquor store, go-karting, and a well-stocked grocery store. If you stay in Åsarna several great sports stores with everything you need for long days outdoors.
Åsarna summer – running, cycling, and dream fishing
For trail runners or MTB enthusiasts, Åsarna has Åsarna you could dream of. There are several miles of trails offering running or cycling in varied terrain, as well as cozy hiking trails for families with children. Åsarna also has Åsarna to offer fishing enthusiasts, with the Ljungan River just a stone's throw away. In the area, you can fish for everything from casting to fly fishing, stream fishing, and mountain fishing.
A quarter of an hour's drive away is the Klövsjö-Vemdalen 18-hole golf course, which offers a wonderful golfing experience in a traditional mountain pasture setting. Another excursion destination is the Hoverberg Nature Reserve, where you can visit Sweden's largest gorge cave, Hoverbergsgrottan.
