Preliminary study of trails and paths in the Vemdalen destination

The Jämtland Härjedalen Region granted Destination Vemdalen AB support to carry out a preliminary study of trails and paths in the Vemdalen destination.

The total project cost amounted to SEK 650,000 and was financed by so-called 1/1 funds from the Region and co-financing from the municipalities of Berg and Härjedalen, Skistar, Storhogna Invest, Storhogna's road association, Cibola, and Vemdalsfastigheter. The support amounted to 49.98 percent of the actual costs and 49.98 percent of the total financing, but with a maximum of SEK 299,774.

The aim of the project was to contribute to greater consideration for outdoor recreation and tourism in municipal planning work and to promote cooperation between different actors on issues relating to land use and trail systems.

The project objectives were:

– Describe municipal plans and how planning work was carried out with regard to outdoor recreation and tourism, and create an agreed focus for planning work with an emphasis on trail systems,
– Investigate and report on developers' plans and ongoing work, and work to increase respect for the tourism industry,
highlight and compile views from the reindeer industry and work to increase understanding and agreements regarding trail systems and the focus of the tourism industry,
continue the dialogue with affected landowners regarding land use and the impact of the tourism industry.

The project contributed to increased knowledge, support, and consensus among the parties involved in these issues.

The project was carried out during the period March 1, 2024, to October 31, 2024.
