Hiking trails inÅsarna
The aim of the project was to create a long-term sustainable destination with trails that could continue to withstand high visitor pressure without significant wear and tear and negative environmental impacts. Through measures such as clearing, marking, groundwork, and signage on all trails, a consistent level of high quality and good accessibility was maintained. The work resulted in a network of well-developed trails that helped strengthen the Vemdalen brand as a sustainable and attractive destination.
The project resulted in:
- 5,000 meters of timber for the renovation of footbridges, bridges, and simple bridges.
- The footbridges were replaced and placed in exposed areas where there was a great need. In the project, the waste wood from the footbridge construction was utilized and given new life in the form of benches. These simple but charming seats were placed along the trails and provided an opportunity for visitors to take a break and enjoy nature, while combining reuse with visitor comfort.
- Groundwork (digging and graveling)
- Digging and graveling were carried out at Karl XI's trail on Ripfjället, in an area around Örnstenen in Storhogna, and along Trollstigen up to the hunting lodge at Vemdalsskalet. The measures were carried out both to strengthen the trails and to manage water flows. By diverting water away from paths and low-lying areas, the trails became drier and more durable, making hiking easier and more enjoyable regardless of the weather.
- During the project, six new information boards were installed at strategic locations along the trails: the trail center in Vemdalsskalet, Örnstenen in Storhogna, above the M house in Storhogna, the trail center in Björnrike, the Ripfjället cabin area, and Björnstigen in Vemdalsskalet. The boards contained clear maps, distance information, safety information, and tips on what visitors could discover in the area. This contributed to a more informative and safer hiking experience and enhanced the experience of the trails for both beginners and experienced hikers.
- New windbreak where Victorialeden and Röjån met
- During the project, a new wind shelter was built at the point where Victorialeden and Röjån met. The wind shelter provided a place for hikers to take a break and shelter from the elements, and became a clear resting point along the trail.
- Clearing and marking existing trails
- During the project, a total of 165,425 meters of existing trails were cleared and marked, which meant a major upgrade. The new markings made it easier for hikers to follow the summer trails and feel safe in nature.
