Eating waffles in the mountains is one of winter's most cherished traditions. The aroma of freshly baked waffles, rosy cheeks after a trip in the snow, and the view of the mountains make the break extra special. There are two classic waffle huts in the area, both offering equal parts taste experience and winter adventure – Jaktstugan on Ripfjället and Samevistet at Storhogna. You can get to both in several ways, but a trip by snowmobile makes the journey an experience in itself.
The hunting lodge
For many people, a trip up to the Jaktstugan cabin is an essential part of a winter holiday in Vemdalsskalet. The Våffelstugan cabin is located on Ripfjället, about three kilometers from Vemdalsskalet, and although you can get there on skis or a snowmobile, there is something very special about traveling up there by snowmobile.
You can ride inside the sled, sit behind it on a toboggan, or follow behind on skis. Whichever way you choose, the journey will be an atmospheric adventure where the trip is almost as memorable as the waffle waiting for you at the top. When the sled reaches the edge of the mountain, the landscape opens up and the view of the mountains sets the tone for a truly wonderful break.
Once you arrive, you will find Jaktstugan, a classic waffle hut where crispy waffles, warming soups, and other mountain favorites are served in a family-friendly environment. Here you can sit down, warm up, and enjoy the view before it's time to move on.
For those who interpret with slalom skis, there is also an easy descent back to Hildings backe, allowing you to smoothly glide straight back into the ski system once you have finished your waffles.
Boat traffic to the hunting lodge

- During peak season, the ferries run more frequently as needed.

Commonwealth
On the other side of the mountain range, another gem awaits – Samevistet, located on the bare mountain above Storhogna Högfjällshotell & Spa. A trip here is more than just transportation; it is a peaceful journey straight into the mountain world.
The Vesslan departs from the hotel parking lot and takes you approximately 3.5 kilometers up the mountain to Samevistet. At the parking lot, there is a large sign with a clock showing when the next departure is. Just like to Jaktstugan, you can choose to ride in a sled behind the Vesslan or follow on cross-country skis. It is also possible to get here on skis, snowshoes, or snowmobiles, making Samevistet a popular destination for many winter visitors.
When you arrive, you are greeted by a rustic log cabin where the pace slows down and the mountain atmosphere takes over. Here, waffles made from our own recipe are served, along with soups, homemade bread, and pastries that give you new energy for the rest of the day.
