Susanne is retired and leads an active life. Summer and winter alike, she keeps busy to stay healthy in body and mind. When winter comes, she looks forward to taking her first turns of the year on the ski slopes.
"I feel alive when I'm skiing. There's something about feeling the wind, the sun, and the speed," says Susanne.

– There are just the right number of people, plenty of space, and often really good snow. I've never felt restricted here.
Equipment tips for safe and fun riding
Susanne believes that having equipment that provides extra protection has become more important with age. Among other things, she recommends renting skis with good stability and shock absorption. She says that helmets and back protectors are a must.
– I always take a little extra time to put on good clothes and, of course, always wear a helmet. It increases both comfort and safety.
Best weeks for quiet skiing
One advantage of skiing as a pensioner is that you can avoid the busiest weeks. According to Susanne, January and March are the best months for those who want a quieter mountain vacation.
– The slopes are at their best then. The pace is calmer, there is plenty of space, and the weather is often fantastic.
A place to long for
Susanne returns to Vemdalen year after year. She loves the community, nature, and the feeling of being part of the rhythm of the mountains.
– It doesn't matter how old you are, you can always have fun skiing. And in Vemdalen, it's extra easy to enjoy yourself.
